This map shows the growing number of residents and councils who are helping to enable children to play out more. We add information to it when we know of activity happening on streets and in neighbourhoods.

You can find out what’s happening where you live and see whether there are others doing things locally who are happy to give you support and advice. Our Local Authority Directory lists the areas where most change is happening. If you are already doing something on your street and it’s not yet on the map, please email us to let us know.

City of Edinburgh Council is supporting a four month street play pilot running between July and October 2016 which allows up to 20 streets to apply to close for playing out sessions at no charge. Edinburgh residents have campaigned for some time for the council to enable free, regular playing out sessions and their campaign was covered in the Edinburgh Evening News

In April 2016 the council announced they would stop charging for each street closure – allowing residents to go ahead and organise playing out sessions.

For full details of how to apply visit the council’s web page.

If you live in Edinburgh and want to get your street playing out, you could join the local Facebook group for ideas and support, and look at their website.
