See how the street play movement is growing across the UK

We’re adding a pin for every area where parents, residents, a community organisation or the council (and ideally, all of them together) are starting to change things for children through play streets and related ideas. The movement is growing! See what’s happening near you by entering the name of your local authority (council) in the box below. Tell us if you want to get something started in your area – or if there’s anything to add to our map!

What’s happening in Birmingham?

Birmingham City Council supports Playing Out/ play streets under the banner of ‘Active Streets’ which is part of the Birmingham Wellbeing service. Residents in Birmingham can receive support from local organisation Active Streets to play out. See here for what they offer and to get in touch with them.

Space Makers is a grass roots residents group who are working on improving spaces for people in Birmingham.

Playing Out first started in Birmingham in August 2013 when three streets in Kings Heath became play streets. This activity was repeated in 2014, and since then Birmingham City Council created a city wide scheme.

The Kings Heath and Moseley Playing Out group is still going, and a good place to keep in touch.

For information on how to close your street go to the Active Wellbeing Website. They run their own Active streets facebook group where you can post pictures and share stories.
