“There’s something about playing out, the simplicity of it and the fact that you can just go out there and do it…it doesn’t ask for long term commitment…that worked well in a complex context” (Community development worker, Bristol City Council, 2023)
Do you work with communities facing greater disadvantages and challenges? Do you want to support children to play out safely in the streets and spaces near their home?
Our playing out model is a powerful tool for reaching people and building community among residents, primarily parents, who want their children to be healthier, happier and have a sense of belonging where they live.
Play streets are often resident-led, but sometimes more support is needed.
Drawing on years of experience working in different settings, and our professional network, we’ve developed a toolkit that will support local organisations, funders and community practitioners to get started with playing out sessions or play streets.
Please download it and use it. We also have a forum you can join to discuss and share ideas with other practitioners around the UK.
